Michaela’s Portraits at Marist College, Poughkeepsie NY

Marist College is home to the only Doctor of Physical Therapy program in Poughkeepsie, NY. When students receive their white coats in their second year, it symbolizes not only the responsibility they take on when they start treating patients; but also a major accomplishment and milestone in the program.

When Michaela asked me to take her white coat photos, I knew we had to not only honor this accomplishment but also capture her personality. The school’s PT lab is where Michaela has spent most of her time learning hands-on skills, so we grabbed a few shots in there to capture her in her element.

We also ventured out to Marist’s beautiful campus for some gorgeous golden-hour light. This happened to be one of the first warmer days of the year, and I was so grateful to be able the beautiful weather and the nice warm light for this shoot.

And of course, we couldn’t leave out Lucy, Michaela’s adorable corgi who has become well-known around campus (she even has her own Instagram).

We timed this session so well that we were able to get her white coat photos, two other outfits, and two locations before we lost the sunlight! We had so much fun with these photos, I love shooting in meaningful locations to emphasize a story just a touch more, and what better place than the campus where such great achievements were made?
